
Brian Lucas
Brian graduated from Imperial College London with an honours degree in Chemical Engineering. After qualifying in private practice, he headed up the European Patent Operation of a US multinational for 7 years before setting up the present firm in 1982.
He is a Chartered UK & European Patent Attorney, a UK & Community Trade Mark Attorney and a Patent Attorney Litigator. He is a director and claims committee member of PAMIA, which is the mutual insurance company which insures most of the UK and Irish Patent professions.
In his spare time he enjoys competitive sailing and windsurfing.

Paul Cole
Paul is a UK and European patent and trademark attorney and is authorized to conduct intellectual property litigation before the UK courts. He received an MA in chemistry from Oxford University and an LLM from Nottingham Trent University. Before becoming a partner in his present firm in 1999, he worked in a private practice in central London.
In addition to litigation he has experience in a variety of fields including image compression, optics, display devices and oil drilling technology. His prosecution experience covers business methods and software, low power radio, photocopiers, ink jet printers, liquid crystal and light-emitting diode displays and materials including toners and inks.

Phillip Lucas
Phillip became a partner at Lucas & Co. in 2004. He is a UK and European Patent Attorney and has been practising since 1993. He graduated from University College London with an honours degree in Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering.
His day to day work involves the filing and prosecution of patent applications in mechanical and oil field technologies. He has also acted for major corporations in IP litigations and been involved in proceedings before the Patents County Court, UK Court of Appeal and before a Taxing Master.
Phillip spends his free time working towards living a truly carbon neutral life, often finding that old fashioned ways of living are the most eco-friendly, as well as being the most rewarding.

Gillian Herrod-Hempsall
Gillian graduated from Bristol with an honours degree in Microbiology and is a European Patent Attorney. After starting in private practice she then worked in the pharmaceutical industry for 7 years, during which time she was responsible for the worldwide filing & prosecution of the Zovirax® patent family. She then moved back into private practice where she has been ever since. She has experience of drafting & prosecution in a variety of fields including biotechnology, diagnostics, food technology, vaccines & pharmaceuticals.
Gillian has been of counsel to Lucas & Co. since 2001.

Tony Miller
Tony has a background in the Aeronautics industry. Having completed a Handley Page Aircraft Company Apprenticeship in 1963, he went on to work for the Ministry of Defence’s IPR department. This included placement at RAE Farnborough and CBDE Porton Down. He is a European Patent Attorney.
Tony has been of counsel to Lucas & Co. since 2001.
